Old Swiss Life

In 1998, a kid from Arizona went to Switzerland as an exchange student. Now he tells its stories.

The Year Switzerland Had No Summer, 1816

History, from the kitchen table

History class covers kings and battles. We wanted to know what ordinary people did all day. How they got through a winter. What they ate when the harvest failed. Who carried the mail over the mountains.

Old Swiss Life answers those questions, one story at a time.

Two languages, one story

Every episode is made twice: in English as Old Swiss Life, and in German as Stubengeschichten, for the people whose history it is.

Who watches

People who love history but are tired of kings and battles, and Swiss viewers who want their own past told in their own language.

What goes into every episode

Every episode is researched, scripted, voiced, illustrated and edited, then built a second time in German with its own titles and upload package. AI is in the toolkit. The research, the story and the hours are ours.

Each episode is reviewed for what held viewers and what didn't, and the next one gets better. It's a love letter to a country that changed one exchange student's life.
